There are many summer activities in Denver, places to go, attractions, and things to do. Following are highlights of just a few favorite summertime activities in or near downtown Denver.

On your list of attractions and things to do, you might start out your exploration of Downtown Denver with a walking tour of Capitol Hill. Here you’ll discover the new beautiful Denver Art Museum, with the striking modernism of its new wing. While enjoying the charm of this historic neighborhood, be sure to take in the Colorado State Capitol where they have regular tours free to the public.

To really appreciate the wonderful variety of the area be sure to include in your activities the Denver Botanic Gardens, which showcase over 32,000 types of plants to be found in Colorado’s dry climate. Here you’ll find a gorgeous array of plants that need little watering. Summer hours are 9-5 Wednesday through Friday, and 9-8 Saturday through Tuesday.

Among the things to do during the summer, a classic summertime activity is visiting the zoo. Denver has a world class zoo on 80 acres of outdoor habitats in City Park, housing over 4,000 animals. Zoo hours during the summer are 9-6 daily.

While in City Park in the summer, don’t miss the free jazz concerts held on Sunday evenings from June to August.

Denver is also the place to find summer festivals. There’s the Cherry Creek Arts Festival, the famous Colorado Renaissance Festival, the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival—the list goes on and on. Something fun and festive is going on every week in the summer.

Other summer activities in Denver include swimming in one of Denver’s sixteen public outdoor pools, or taking a break on one of its seven golf courses within the metro area.

To fully appreciate summertime activities in the Denver area, go to the Red Rocks Park amphitheater where you might attend a concert or enjoy the exotic experience of watching a movie shown on the rocks.
