Description

Part of the Save Movement- Denver Community

Event Details

We will meet at the corner of Washington St. and E 49th Ave. (This is along the main road in front of the slaughterhouse. You should be able to park in various places in the neighborhood across the street from the slaughterhouse, but pay close attention to all signs regarding parking.

For the first 45 minutes, we will stand on the sidewalk across the street from the slaughterhouse holding signs and doing outreach in the community. Then, we will move cars and park at the corner of E 48th Ave. and Emerson St. This is where we usually park and walk through the opening in the fence up to the bike path. Again, please pay close attention to parking signs and do not block any gates or entrances to people’s homes or businesses.

Along the bike path, activities will include holding signs, writing messages with chalk, cleaning up trash in the community, singing songs (to build unity, but also to help calm lambs and goats in the pens inside the slaughterhouse), doing outreach with bikers and joggers, and bearing witness when the lambs and goats arrive.
You are welcome to bring plant-based snacks for yourself or to share, if you want. But, there is definitely no obligation. Depending on weather, you may sometimes want sunscreen, insect repellent, and a water bottle. We often gather for lunch at Beet Box or Meta Burger afterwards and would love for you to join us!

***Please also note: If we have exceptionally large attendance, we may have groups of people in both locations for the entire time, with some people switching at some point. So, if you come late and don’t find us in one of the two meeting locations, always check the other location.***

General accessibility information: The walk along the bike path is 1-2 blocks. Getting to the nearest restroom involves walking/riding a couple blocks to the 7-11. They are usually very nice about letting us use the restroom, however, I try to buy something as often as I can when I go in there. There is an RTD bus stop directly in front of the slaughterhouse, which can be reached by riding Bus Route 12. For all other accessibility information, please contact Sarah Hewson through Facebook or by calling or texting 614-306-4436.
